亚硫酸钠用于摄影行业，以保护显影液不被氧化；在纸浆和造纸行业；在水处理中作为除氧剂，在皮革工业中作为脱硫脱氯剂，在纺织工业中作为漂白剂。它用作防腐剂以防止干果变色。它在化学工业中用作磺化剂和磺甲基化剂。它参与硫代硫酸钠的生产。其他应用包括第四浮选矿石、采油和染料制造。
