色氨酸 (Trp) 是与生长、繁殖、维持和免疫相关的功能性氨基酸之一。增加色氨酸的可用性对于调节情绪、认知和行为是必要的。据推测，L-Trp 可能有助于在健康成年人中诱导睡眠以对抗正常的昼夜节律。大脑对色氨酸的摄取取决于血浆中色氨酸与所有其他 LNAA（大中性氨基酸）的比例。 Trp:LNAAs 比率越高，Trp 吸收越大。
