N-月桂酰肌氨酸是一种阴离子去污剂。用于膜蛋白和糖蛋白的溶解和分离；据报道可抑制己糖激酶。它适用于 RNA 纯化过程中细胞裂解步骤中使用的浓缩盐溶液（有助于避免过度起泡）。它已被用于指示胶束中食道中的顺磁各向异性符号变化。它以 0.25% 的浓度抑制人类唾液/肠道的细菌群落，并在水分散液 (1%) 中充当抑菌剂。
