5,6-Dihydrobenzo[b]thiophen-7(4H)-one is an intermediate used to prepare thiadiaminooxopyrimidine derivatives with antitumor activities. It is also used to synthesize (aminoalkyl)benzo- and -thienocycloalkanones as atypical antipsychotics.
